Our Vision and Values

At St George’s Infant and Preschool, our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision: “Let your light shine” (Matthew 5:16). We aim to nurture children who flourish academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Guided by our values of commitment, compassion, courage, community and love, we equip children with the foundations they need for life. We have designed our curriculum to provide opportunities for all children to “Inspire, Believe, Achieve”  through our windows, mirrors and doors analogy.

Inspire
What will ignite curiosity?
Windows: Opportunities to become aware of the world and wonder about life in all its fullness.

Believe
How does this build confidence?
Mirrors: Opportunities to reflect on their experiences by exploring their own insights and perspectives of others.
Achieve
What tangible or expressive outcome will children create?
Doors: Opportunities to respond, putting into action what they are beginning to believe and value.

Our Approach to Learning

We place the child at the centre of our teaching, ensuring that every child is valued and experiences success. Our curriculum embraces diversity, celebrates our locality in Amersham and raises aspiration by opening children’s eyes to life beyond their immediate environment. Learning is engaging, purposeful and creative, encouraging curiosity, resilience, independence and inquisitive thinking. We strive to instil 6 key traits for effective, lifelong learning into all of our children arranged into our St George’s armoury and celebrated weekly in our Friday collective worship:

Our Curriculum

Following the EYFS framework and National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, our coherently planned curriculum builds knowledge, skills and cultural capital in a progressive way. Reading, vocabulary and mathematics underpin all learning, ensuring secure foundations. Spirituality is threaded throughout the curriculum, giving children opportunities to reflect, wonder and act. Sustainability is also central, enabling children to become caretakers of God’s world and courageous advocates for positive change. Childhood at St George’s is seen as a precious, enquiring time where curiosity is nurtured and there are no limits to learning.

Our Aspirations

We are ambitious for all children, including the most disadvantaged and those with barriers to learning. Our intention is to equip each child to live happy, healthy and productive lives, with the skills, knowledge and values needed to participate fully in an ever-evolving society. By the end of Key Stage 1, our children leave us ready for Key Stage 2: confident, responsible and with a light that continues to shine - in their communities, their choices and their love of learning.
