Year 2 children were treated to a special Christmas performance linked to their topic on World War 1. Quantum Theatre Company specialise in working with schools to create theatre pieces which compliment topics on the National Curriculum. They are well practiced in pitching performances designed to keep the children’s interest, broaden their understanding of the topic and keep them entertained.
The new production was based on the extraordinary events leading up to the short lived Christmas Truce between in 1914. The company used original sources and material from the time to develop and interweave songs, sketches, poetry and prose in order to commemorate this very special event. Moving, informative and even sometimes comic, the play gave the children a wartime experience that got to the heart of the day to day lives of those involved.
Mrs Barber added, “The Christmas Truce production was a great opportunity one we felt we couldn’t pass up - it seemed the perfect way to finish off our topic on World War 1 from this term just before Christmas. We have been learning about Amersham during The Great War, in conjunction with Amersham Museum’s Exhibition."
