Disabled Access to the School Site

St George's CE Infant and Preschool is committed to inclusive mainstream education and equal opportunities for all.  Since September 2002 The Disability Discrimination Act laid a new duty on schools to plan to improve accessibility overtime.  In particular the focus of these improvements are:

Increasing access for disabled pupils to the school curriculum.  This includes teaching and learning and the wider curriculum of the school such as participation in after school clubs, extra curricular activities and school trips.

Improving access to the physical environment of schools.  This includes improvement of the physical environment of the school and physical aids to access education.

Improving the delivery of written information to disabled pupils.  This will include planning to ensure written information that is usually provided by the school to its pupils, available to disabled pupils.  Examples might include resources used in the classroom, handouts, timetables, books and information about school events.  The information should take account of pupil's disabilities and pupils or parents preferred formats for communication.  These must be shared in a timely manner, within agreed timeframes.

We strive to ensure that all visitors and parents can access the school site to ensure full participation in events at St George's.  We have one disabled parking space in the car park, we recommend calling the school in advance, if possible, to book this space.

We have a designated disabled toilet on site. Our school site is one storey and accessible to wheelchairs and walking aids.
