Our amazing new STEM ROOM is soon to be a reality!

We wanted to bring you some good news!

Thanks to all of you and our wider school community, we are thrilled to say work has begun on our brilliant new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) room. This has been the St. Georges PTA’s massive fundraising project for the last 15 months and we are so excited to start sharing more details on its progress.

This is the biggest project the PTA has ever been tasked with. At the beginning of the Autumn 2019 term, the teachers asked us if we could help turn the disused computer room into a fantastic new cooking/DT/Science room aka our new STEM room. The room will be a place each class will be able to go to every week to do all their science, cooking, technology, engineering and maths activities in a fully functional space completely designed for these activities. This new space will be so beneficial for the children, as we know STEM is incredibly important, and to create the interest and knowledge from such an early age will have huge benefits for later life. The room will also be set up as a kitchen allowing a whole class to cook and learn together, we even have Waitrose on board to come and give healthy eating talks/recipes when it will be possible to do that again.

There have been a lot of highs and lows with this project, right from the word go but Mrs Yendell has worked tirelessly to get us through these bumpy patches and without her this project just wouldn’t have happened. We have also been overwhelmed by the generosity of the kitchen supplier, Masterclass who has gone over and above to ensure we get the kitchen at an incredible price and ready in time for the Christmas holidays.

So far, the teachers have been busy clearing as much out of the space as possible. Last weekend the electricians did the first fix electrics and a few of us started painting. This weekend, the floor will be ripped up and a lovely new hard-wearing flooring will be put in place and we’ll be back to finish off the painting on Sunday. Next Thursday all the units will be delivered ready for the fitter to start work as soon as school closes on Friday. With any luck it will all come together over the Christmas holidays and when we return in January it will all be complete!!

The only things left to fundraise for is all the equipment for the room (£2500) and the smartboard (£3000) which hopefully will be partially covered by the Christmas activities which you have all entered into so enthusiastically. Thank you! As soon as we have more photos to update you with we will share on here.

Love the PTA

Welcome to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Welcome to the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Registered charity: 298920

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is led by parents and supported by teachers, and exists to raise money for the school. In order to achieve this, we hold a number of events throughout the year such as summer fayres, tea with Santa, school discos (for children and a separate one for adults), quiz nights, Mother’s Day bake off and afternoon tea, break the rules day, and many more. 2020 also marked our inaugural pandemic-proof relay, bringing our community together during a really challenging time, which was heaps of fun! We also raise money using the Voucher Scheme (see below for further information). If you do nothing else, this is the simplest way to raise much-needed funds for the school, with minimal effort and no additional costs to you!

St George’s Core PTA Team 2020/21:

Co-Chairs: Charlotte Griffiths & Lindsey Powell

Co-Secretaries: Emma Turner & Michelle Catanach

Treasurer: Kate Dinwiddy

Our goal is to ensure that all children at St George's are given equal opportunities and have the best start to school life that they can. The funds we raise help to buy equipment for use in the classrooms, improve the teaching facilities and the school buildings, and give the children little treats along the way.

Last year we raised in excess of £13,500 which was used to fund the new STEM room. We also funded the Year 2 leavers books and online educational programmes.

This could not happen without the invaluable support from all of our parents and we are really keen to encourage everyone to help in whatever way they can. If you have a skill or hobby that could benefit the team such as cake making, artistic flair, DIY, photography, disco DJ, marketing, accounting or anything else, then please let us know. Or perhaps you have a local contact who could potentially support, assist, donate or sponsor events, or have a matched giving scheme within your company – again, we would love to hear from you. We are very grateful and fortunate to have such a diverse community at St. George's and welcome fresh perspectives, ideas, and contributions from everyone, no matter how small. Every little counts! In addition to raising funds, the PTA also aims to bring the community of St George’s together, with the hope of making it a really fun place to be, so come along and make new friends as you help raise money for the school.  Email us at if you'd like to get involved.

For more information and the latest news from the PTA, please keep an eye on the notice board which is located to the right as you come through the gate.
